How were these pictures chosen?
Selections were based on pictorial excellence— artistry, contrast, composition, crisp-ness, beauty. But the photographs also had to represent accurately the "feel" and the "look" of the area, as you would view it if you had the time to go to the exact spot, at the best time of the dav, during its most attractive season.
But... a published photograph is only as good as its reproduction. For this reason, no effort has been spared to bring you pictures of framing quality by means of the finest reproduction processes. The faithful and brilliant color plates in this volume are the result of careful and exact four-color printing of photographs, utilizing the new Kodak color methods, fine paper, and expert supervision of the actual press runs. The dramatic black-and-white plates have been printed twice, each time in a different value of black, to attain an exceptionally fine degree of contrast and tone.
