Adolph Hitler and the Nazi nation he so brutally forged came to an ignominious, humiliating and destructive end 50 years ago. And for what is now a passing generation, the memories since have been painful, intense and unrelenting. To this day, in the year 1995, there still remain deep scars that mark the bodies and spirits of the ever fewer men and women whose youth was so viciously touched by the insanity of a clever man and his foolish, but efficiently destructive, minions. But for three generations since, 50 years is a long time ago. Time may heal all wounds, but it can never legitimize evil doings. And thus the story of Eugene Schilling and his powerful love for his adopted Gypsy daughter, Natalie, brings life to a fading memory.
As a German school teacher and war widower, he must fight against his own self-loathing for ever having once believed in Hitler, and against his fears that he's too late in taking action against the vile ideology that has twisted his nation's consciousness. Thrust into a heartbreaking conflict between love and treason, Eugene Schilling fights Nazism on the most important battlefield of all - his heart.
