One of the most romantic and controversial figures of British history, Mary Queen of Scots has always captured the popular imagination. Yet, until now, no general biography based on the detailed research of the last fifty years has been written.
Antonia Fraser spent four years writing this tragic and dramatic life. She studied the published and manuscript sources in Scotland, France and England and visited every important place connected with Mary. During the course of her research she became fascinated by the development of Mary's character - how this beautiful girl, so gay and pleasure-seeking in youth, developed in middle age into a woman capable of dying one of the most noble deaths in history. It is not the least of Antonia Fraser's achievements that in this remarkable book she has provided a moving answer to the question 'what was Mary Queen of Scots reallv like?'
THE AUTHOR
Lady Antonia Fraser is thirty-six. She is married to Hugh Fraser, the Conservative M.P. for Stafford and Stone.
